Episode 75: Grit Leads to Greatness with Jenny Schroen

Jenny Kerr Schroen leads marketing for Delmarva Veteran Builders (DVB) in Salisbury Maryland, where she recently co-authored the children’s dystopian tale, Grit Leads to Greatness.

Jenny’s story is just as fascinating as the one she co-authored, and that’s where we start on today’s episode. She grew up the middle child of three sisters in a creative, close-knit family in Northern Kentucky near Cincinnati, Ohio. After college, she explored the world while practicing graphic design and travel blogging with her sisters. More than a decade later, she reconnected with and married a widowed college friend with four young children. That marriage and move to Salisbury brought her to Chris Eccleston, who hired her as the Creative Developer for DVB.

In 2020, Jenny won an international creative competition, for developing DVB’s ad campaign and a new tagline “Grit Leads to Greatness”. Extensive research regarding the power of Grit and her first-hand view of the workforce shortage inspired Jenny to co-write Grit Leads to Greatness—a nod to her own kids for persevering through tough times while demonstrating to all people the vital impact construction trades have on the world.

Last week, I interviewed Jenny’s boss and co-author. Now listen to her story and how everyone can cultivate the power of grit.
