Prosper for Purpose Founder and CEO Lorraine Schuchart recently participated in a historic event: The first-ever gathering of female CEOs of Certified B Corporations from across North America. The event was held on April 19 at the Eileen Fisher LifeWork Center in Irvington, New York, and hosted by the impressive and inspiring founder herself, Eileen Fisher. Eileen’s company has taken significant steps for social and environmental impact and she plans to do even more.
The event was called “We the Change. Women Together.” Inspired by the B Corp call to action “B the Change,” the purpose was to identify, ideate and own initiatives that can change the world. A pretty big charge for the 80+ attendees, but there’s nothing entrepreneurs like more than a good challenge.
Using the World Café Method, guests sat at round tables (café style) and participated in a structured conversational process for knowledge sharing. In this process, groups of people discuss a topic at several tables, with individuals switching tables periodically and getting introduced to the previous discussion at their new table by a “table host.” After several rounds, participants dispersed to different areas to continue to ideate the best initiatives that emerged: B2B, CEO Peers, Gender Parity, Diversity & Inclusion, Shifting Capital, Growing the B Brand, and Transforming Your Industry From the Inside Out.
There were next steps identified and each attendee committed to continuing to work on at least one of the initiatives. As of this writing, nearly a month has passed since the event. What has happened since then? Phone calls and video conferences. Emails and more emails. Work.
The adage is true: Busy people get things done. And determined and busy women really get things done. So while we didn’t change the world in a day, change is coming. We are the change.
